A Natural Remedy For Coughs- A Steamed Orange With Salt

If you have a cough that just won't go away, a steamed orange with a little bit of salt might just be the perfect cure for that nagging cough. It is a great home remedy and natural remedy for coughs, and is somewhat tasty as well!

Here's what you need:

  • A small to medium sized orange (or tangerine)

  • Some sea salt
     

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Wash the orange (or tangerine)

  2. Soak the orange in salt water for about 15 minutes

  3. Cut off the top of the orange the way you would cut off the lid of a pumpkin when making a jack o lantern (see picture below)

  4. Poke holes into the flesh of the orange (the inside) with a chopstick or fork. Alternatively, you can slice the flesh of the orange with a knife

  5. Sprinkle a pinch of salt onto the flesh off the orange, trying to get it into the holes you’ve made

  6. Cover the orange with the lid you originally cut off

  7. Steam the orange for 15 minutes

  8. Eat the orange and drink any juice that is produced

While it will not work for everyone, many people will notice a reduction or even complete elimination of their cough even after the first orange. If needed, you can eat one orange a day prepared this way until your cough subsides. On the off chance it doesn’t help, at least you are still getting some Vitamin C!
